My Fast Story

First time prolong fasting. Preparations.

This will be a recollection of my 32-hour fasting experience. The first time that I did in my 40+ years of existence. I have not taken notes in the duration. I was thinking of, maybe, this is also a sort of a brain exercise for me.

How or where did I begin or come up with the idea of fasting? Every now and then, when you scroll endlessly down the rabbit hole of those social media posts, videos, reels, etc, you will find one that is fascinating and that would interest you. So mine is a post or reel or I dont even remember what was it anymore. It is about the benefits of fasting. There was an experiment or a study done about fasting. The study won him a Nobel Prize in 2016. What sold me is this autophagy thing. Basically, autophagy is a process wherein your body’s garbage collector will collect your bad cells and replace with something new. Make your body do a “system reset” so to speak. It is not an idea anymore, it is a scientific fact.

Because of what I learned and the scientific study of the effect of fasting, I decided to get into it. I have decided to start my fasting on a Good Friday at 3pm and will end at Black Saturday at 11pm. 32 hours to be exact. It really depends on how your body reacts to prolong fasting. The milestones really are the 24th hour where your muscle growth hormone is at its peak, 32nd hour where your fat burning is at its peak, 36th hour is the sweet(est) spot where all you can get the greatest benefit of fasting. At least from what I read. My first goal was to aim for the 36-hour fasting but you will know as I go through this blog on why I opted for the 32-hour.

My preparation. Of course, fasting needs preparation. Enough sleep prior to fasting. Should be of a sound mind and body. What happened though is that some two days prior to fasting, I was sick. Feverish. Cough is bad, really dry and constant. And got runny nose. I was thinking of not pushing through as my body is telling me something. But I remembered that fasting also helps with lessen or maybe cure illnesses due to the fact that it will destroy bad cells and make your body reset. So, I pushed through. Before the 3pm start, I prepared our lunch, a family of four. Ground beef about 500g. Sauteed with garlic and onions and some soy sauce, salt, MSG seasoning. When the beef is cooked, I topped it with four eggs sunny side up. Of course, rice is life. This is our lunch. I have to finish eating by 245pm.
